The New Dryas world is a sort of alternative future. It's based on an idea that was current when I was studying Environmental Management ten years ago: that global warming would melt the ice caps and the resulting fresh, cold water would interupt the flow of the thermohaline circulation [External Link], particularly the Gulf Stream area.

While no longer considered particularly likely, this is the sort of climate change that (probably) caused the Dryas stadials, particularly the Younger Dryas [External Link].

I've chosen to go with it as a fictional world, the point of divergence probably being within four or five years of now (backward or forward), had the Gulf Stream been affected as projected. My stories deal with the effects of the resulting stadial on people and nations.
